Introduction
1.1 Background
The ARTEMIS User Needs Survey was developed within Task 3.4 to better understand how cultural heritage professionals use digital technologies, what challenges they face, and what needs should guide the development of future services. The survey targeted a wide range of roles, from conservators and scientists to managers, educators, and digital specialists.
It was open from 4 May to 31 July 2025 and collected 343 responses from cultural heritage professionals across Europe.
Results directly support WP5 (training design), WP9 (service requirements), and WP11 (pilot definition), providing the project with evidence–based insights on digital practices, data workflows, and interest in advanced technologies such as Reactive Heritage Digital Twins (RHDTs).
1.2 Methodological note
The analysis is based on aggregated visual outputs generated from the survey dataset. Four analytical layers were used: general charts, training analytics, profile–specific charts and pivot tables for ten professional groups, and cross-profile comparisons for nine of them (the Administration and Management profile is not included inside the comparative overview). All percentages and distributions are derived directly from the survey responses.
All charts, tables, and visual materials used in this report are provided in two complementary forms.
- A selection of key figures is integrated directly into the main text to support the interpretation of results.
- The full collection of visualisations — more than 250 charts, pivot tables and summary tables — is referenced in detail in Appendix A. Each report section includes a direct reference to the corresponding set of visual materials, allowing readers to access the charts and tables relevant to the specific topic or professional profile under discussion.
